Student Testimony
Tuesday, 05 May 2009 18:56
The following is a testimony from Deanna Ceasar, Communications Studies - Opelousas, LA of
LSU.

God has really been good and has moved in and through my Life Group this year. God took girls who pretty much came just because I invited them and He began to change their hearts. These same girls are now faithful to come to Life Group almost every week on their own and even share about themselves.

I thank God so much for the girls that He has allowed me to meet and share with. I love how we were able to meet and pray in the middle of our residence hall, where many saw us reading the Word and wondered what we were up to, and to do outreaches throughout the hall. Even though the enemy tried to discourage me many times throughout the semester about Life Group I know that God moved and is moving through the seeds planted.

God definitely has done a work in me as well. He has humbled me and strengthened my faith in Him. I now know He is always working regardless of the circumstances.

The Diversity Project!
Tuesday, 05 August 2008 21:10
August 4th the official kick-off of The Diversity Project for 2008-2009. The Diversity Project is the state-wide Campus Minister In Training Program for Louisiana. Our program is an intense 10-month journey for college graduates who feel called to vocational campus ministry. CMITs complete an academic course load including theology, exegesis, critical pastoral concerns and preaching labs. They also get hands on ministry training as they start small groups on campus, work with international students and become part of the Chi Alpha leadership team on their campus. Once they have completed program, CMITs will satisfy the requirements to be certified ministers with the Assemblies of God.

This year eight individuals are starting the program. Rachel and Josh Harvey (LSU grads), Carly Guidry (UL grad), Alyce Clark (McNeese grad) and Rika Haas (Univ. Postdam, Germany) will be at the University of Louisiana in Lafayette. Jonathan Buras (LSU grad) and Ali Strauss (LSU grad) will be at LSU. Kelsey Tomes (UL grad) will be at Tulane University in New Orleans.

Pray for our new CMITs as they embark on this incredible adventure!

The Veritas Forum
Friday, 18 July 2008 19:24
Is God necessary for morality?
Is there hope in a hopeless world?
Are there real reasons for belief in God?
Is DNA a 'language of God'?

These are big questions, and in past generations, the university was the
place for young people to work out their perspectives on the big questions
of life. However, as times have changed, so has our educational system, and
most university degree programs are aimed primarily at professional training
rather than worldview development. Students and even faculty are left
without a place to engage the biggest questions, being bogged down with exam
questions.
I've seen this at work over and over again. It is saddening to talk to a
random university student and discover that he or she has not thought about
God as an idea, let alone a loving person in ages, nor has he or she thought
about how to orient one's moral compass or if there is more to human
existence than the material world.
Enter the Veritas Forum <http://www.veritas.org/>. This group began in 1992
at Harvard where they noticed the lack of conversation regarding the issues
of life, morality, ethics, God and eternity. They recruited Christian
apologists and ministers, and alumni from professional fields across the
spectrum to come speak to various audiences at Harvard with the hopes of
jump-starting these necessary conversations. This one-time forum has
developed into an international movement, and Tulane's working on getting on
board.
I got excited about Veritas as I heard about some of the results at
UMass<http://www.umasschialpha.com/>
and Stanford <http://xastanford.org/> where Chi Alpha was a part of hosting
Veritas. They brought in Dr. Francis
Collins<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francis_Collins_%28geneticist%29>,
director of theHuman Genome Project
<http://www.ornl.gov/sci/techresources/Human_Genome/project/about.shtml>to
speak about the marriage of science and faith within his own life. These
talks brought out hundreds of students and faculty!

Tulane is full of biology and chemistry students, bio-chemical engineering
students, and more. Many of these students look up to a scientist like Dr.
Collins as a great hero, and I'm excited about the possibility of bringing
someone like him to Tulane.
Over the past two months, I have been researching Veritas, and now have
recruited a team at Tulane representing nearly all of the Christian
communities on campus, and we are moving forward to plan a Veritas Forum for
Tulane. Our target date is spring of 2009. Matt & Jen Degier - Chi Alpha, New Orleans
